SFMO, Red Cross Plan “Get Alarmed” Efforts in Marion County

Group to Partner with Jasper Fire Department to Install Smoke Alarms This Saturday

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFMO) and the American Red Cross continue their lifesaving partnerships to install free smoke alarms as part of SFMO’s “Get Alarmed, Tennessee!” program.

On Saturday, January 16, crews from the SFMO, Red Cross, and Jasper Fire Department will canvass the Jasper-Kimball area to install free smoke alarms for homes in need, while also educating residents on crucial fire safety topics. The event was planned in response to a fatal house fire in the community that claimed the life a 13-year-old boy last month.

“Events like this play an important role in reducing fire deaths and injuries in our state,” said Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance Commissioner and State Fire Marshal Julie Mix McPeak. “Working together with our partners like the Red Cross and local fire departments, we hope to continue making Tennessee a safer place to call home.”

Since the “Get Alarmed” program’s inception in 2012, the SFMO and Tennessee fire service partners have distributed over 100,000 smoke alarms throughout the state’s high-risk areas. Figures have recently confirmed the 109th person was saved from a smoke alarm installed as part of the program.
