Notice of Rulemaking Hearing for New Rules of the
Home Inspector Licensing Program

 

Pursuant to Tenn. Code Ann. § 4-3-1306(d), you are receiving this notice because you have elected to receive notification by e-mail of certain changes or potentialchanges to the law applicable to your profession.

The Tennessee Home Inspector Licensing Program will be conducting a rulemaking hearing on, Friday, May 12, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. CT. This rulemaking hearing will be held at the following address:

The Notice of Rulemaking Hearing was filed with the Secretary of State on March 20, 2023. The proposed rule amendments update the home inspector standards of practice for smoke alarm reporting. Specifically, the rule amendments expand the reporting requirements for licensees related to smoke alarm denotations, including indicating the presence or absence of smoke alarms, test functionality, any deficiencies and/or insufficiencies of the alarm, whether a replacement is required, and require the licensee to make replacement recommendations. Lastly, the proposed rule amendments provide licensees should inform the person receiving the report should contact the State Fire Marshal’s Office to see if a free smoke alarm may be available to them.
