Notice of Effective Date for New Rules for

Tennessee Real Estate Appraiser Commission

Pursuant to Tenn. Code Ann. § 4-3-1306(d), you are receiving this notice because you have elected to receive notification by e-mail of certain changes or potential changes to the law applicable to your profession.

The Tennessee Real Estate Appraiser Commission approved proposed rules at their regularly scheduled meeting conducted on April 16, 2018. These rules were filed with the Secretary of State on September 7, 2018 and will become effective on December 6, 2018. These rules have been filed as Proposed Rules and will be promulgated without a hearing ninety (90) days from the filing date unless a petition is received by at least ten (10) persons who will be affected by the rule.

The proposed rules eliminate the $125 application fee, which is due upon filing an initial application and the $25 duplicate license fee, which licensees had to pay in order to receive a duplicate copy of their license. The duplicate license request is no longer necessary since licensees can now print their own license online. In addition, the proposed rules also reduce the license and certificate issuance and renewal fee by $25.

Since May 1, 2018, the Appraisal Qualifications Board (“AQB”) has placed new standards, which reduce the education and experience requirements for applicants for licensure. Under T.C.A. §§ 62-39-303, 62-39-312 and 62-39-313, the Commission requires that applicants must meet the current requirements for licensure as set forth by the AQB, therefore these proposed rules reflect those changes to education and experience.
