Tennessee Motor Vehicle Commission
Proposed Rule Notify

Pursuant to T.C.A. § 4-3-1306(d), you are receiving this notice because you have elected to receive notification by e-mail of certain changes or potential changes to the law applicable to your profession.
On January 23, 2017, the Tennessee Motor Vehicle Commission will consider new rules affecting motor vehicle dealers and recreational vehicle dealers. These changes would amend the Tennessee Rules and Regulations as follows:
Tenn. Comp. R. & Regs. § 0960-01-.08 would be amended so that the Commission may deny a dealership application for a corporate owned dealership if any manager, director, or owner of 5% or more of the company may be denied as an individual applicant under T.C.A. § 55-17-114.
Tenn. Comp. R. & Regs. § 0960-01-.11 would be amended so that motor vehicle dealers and recreational vehicle dealers who issue temporary tags must retain receipts of the temporary tags purchased during the preceding 18 month period. Additionally, the rule would require dealers issuing temporary tags to issue each batch of temporary tags in numerical order and record such issuances in numerical order. This rule will not apply to dealerships who utilize state operated systems and databases for the issuance of temporary tags.
If you have any questions or concerns about this new rule, please contact Matthew Reddish at Matthew.E.Reddish@tn.gov or 615-770-0089.
