Tennessee State Fire Marshal's Office Looking to Set Smoke Alarm Installation Record in Soddy-Daisy

SODDY-DAISY, TN – The State Fire Marshal's Office, the Soddy-Daisy Fire Department, and Hamilton County Emergency Services are excited to host the first Get Alarmed smoke alarm installation event in Soddy-Daisy on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 9 a.m. This event is a part of a major effort to reduce fire deaths, injuries, and property damage in Tennessee. Earlier this year, an elderly veteran perished in a fire incident in Soddy-Daisy and the goal of this event is to prevent tragedies such as that one from happening again by installing smoke alarms and providing fire safety education to Soddy-Daisy residents.

“The Get Alarmed program has saved more than 50 lives in Tennessee and the State Fire Marshal’s Office wants to save even more,” Assistant Commissioner for Fire Prevention Gary West said. “We’re looking to install more than 100 smoke alarms in Soddy-Daisy in one day. Smoke alarms save lives and we look forward to getting more of these essential, life-saving devices into the community.”

WHO: The State Fire Marshal's Office, Soddy-Daisy Fire Department, and Hamilton County Emergency Services

WHAT: The State Fire Marshal's Office, Soddy-Daisy Fire Department, and Hamilton County Emergency Services will be canvassing homes throughout the Soddy Daisy community and looking for families in need of smoke alarms. Volunteers will be installing smoke alarms into homes and teaching families about the importance of fire safety.

WHEN: 9:45 a.m. EST, Saturday, May 17, 2014.
