Priority Goals

1

By July 2014, ensure teachers are better equipped to lead and support the academic growth of all students.

Purpose of Goal

Teachers across all grades and subject areas are focused on ensuring that they and their students are prepared for the Common Core State Standards and for the new PARCC assessments that will begin in 2014-15. In order to support them in taking on this important work, the State provided extensive, free, rigorous training in Summer 2013 for K-12 teachers in math and reading, as well as literacy in Science, Social Studies, and Career, and Technical Education. Additionally, the Department is providing free courses in Reading and Reading Intervention over the course of the 2013-14 school year, and in partnership with districts, devoting significant staff resources to the registration efforts and facilitation of these courses.
